Take an honest appraisal of your team

Creating an effective team takes work and commitment.  One of the questions to ask yourself is, does our team work well together?  Are we committed to a more efficient team?

Envision a better team

Imagine if your team were functioning at its best, what would members be doing?  What would you be achieving?  What would the atmosphere feel like?  This begins to create a vision to which your team can aspire.

Behave consistent with your vision

Take responsibility for your role within the team.  What one behavior might you do that may enhance relationships in the team?  Commit to doing this.

Be assertive

One of the commonly overlooked aspects of assertive behaviour is not only paying attention to your own needs and ideas but also those of others.  It is important that you listen to others in your team.  Try to understand what they are communicating before your respond.  State your point of view clearly and respectfully taking into consideration that others have feelings as do you.

Seek win-win solutions

Where there are differences, seek win-win solutions.  Look for common ground and build your discussion from there.  It helps to anchor your discussion around team goals.
