Community Based Programs
Services that are designed to assist disadvantaged youth and teensWHAT ARE COMMUNITY BASED PROGRAMS
Community Based Services are programmes and interventions developed to enhance the functioning of individuals, families and groups in a community. Typically, these programmes/interventions have educational and skills based components and address topics that influence the way we experience and negotiate life.
At Dolly and Associates, we see ourselves as partnering with communities because we believe the community has expertise about its culture and functioning that can be developed to enhance its members wellbeing. You will find that our workshops and interventions are experiential and highly interactive and focused on enhancing functional capacities of community members. The advantages of attending Community Workshops include:
-
- A supportive and relaxed atmosphere in which to share and learn with individuals with similar interests and concerns.
- Low per person costs allow frequent participation.
- The opportunity to learn from and work with experienced, knowledgeable professionals.
Why Is It Necessary
Community Outreach, Summer Camps and Workshops play a major part of Dolly and Associates means of giving back to the Trinidad and Tobago Community. We annually offer camps and workshops that are designed to assist disadvantaged or at risk youth and teens. We actively seek out ways and welcome the chance to educate the community on mental health and relationship issues. We can align with you to provide facilitators for speaking engagement(s) or to schedule a presentation.

What are the Benefits
Collective Action
Through community service, we assist communities in taking collective action to generate solutions to common problems. Problems may include health, economic, environmental and safety concerns.
Improve Family Performance
Our comprehensive programs and practical tools are built to develop real-world coping and resilience skills that help improve the quality of family life.
Improve Community Awareness
Our facilitators will assess, identify and engage with Community Partners to help give back to their community. Our Community Based Services
Workshops
Our workshops are designed to address identified concerns in the community. They are focused on addressing challenges and developing the mental and psychological maneuvers to assess and respond to them. Activities are geared towards promoting skill development. Topics include Parenting; Family and Community Violence; Child Development; First responder training for traumatic events.
Projects
Community development projects are undertaken in partnership with other organizations – Government, NGOs, FBOs and CBOs. These are team-based multi-modal interventions designed to develop competence and improve individual and community functionality. Some communities which we have worked with include La Romaine, Matelot, Laventille and Sea Lots.
Group Interventions
Sometimes a community might be facing a challenge that affects the wellbeing of its members, for example, conflicts between neighbours. Our team makes an assessment of the situation and develops an intervention plan to address the challenge. Intervention often involves doing group-work with relevant stakeholders to resolve the conflict.
Referrals
We offer support to families in identifying and securing the services needed to meet goals outlined in their plan of care and making appropriate referrals as needed.
