Crisis Management

Coping With Adversity and Challenging Situations

WHAT IS CRISIS MANAGEMENT

Crisis Management services are geared towards to assist in identifying a crisis, planning a response to the crisis, as well as confronting and resolving the crisis.   Crisis Management can be applied in almost any field of endeavor, but it is most commonly used in families, groups and individuals as needed.   Crisis intervention is focused on minimizing the stress of the event, providing emotional support and improving the individual’s coping strategies in the here and now.

A crisis refers not just to a traumatic event or experience, but to an individual’s response to the situation.   The events that trigger this crisis can run the gamut of life experience, from developmental hurdles (such as going through puberty) to natural disasters to the death of a loved one.   Crisis counseling is an intervention that can help individuals deal with the crisis by offering assistance and support.

Our Approach To Crisis Intervention

Education
Our therapists will help you understand, analyze and develop the skills to deal with the crisis.  We provide information about normal human reactions that help you to understand your own reactions and address them.
Support Systems

Often in a crisis we become more acutely aware of the need to have an active support system – family, friends and supportive others. Our counsellors will become part of that system and will also encourage you to identify and access other partners in this supportive network who will rally around you as you recover.

Self Management Skills

In addition to providing support, our counsellors also help you develop skills to deal with the immediate crisis.  This may involve using stress reduction techniques and encouraging positive reframing.  Our goal is not only to teach you these skills in the current crisis but to expand your skill base to treat with future challenges.
